Uploading to YouTube

Prepare title, description, tags and thumbnail for a story and upload the finished video to your YouTube channel.

Updated 21 October 2026

What it does

The YouTube step of a story holds everything YouTube needs: the video, a thumbnail, title, description, tags, playlist and category. You can prepare all of it at any time — only the upload itself needs a connected channel.

Before you start

  • The story needs a channel, and the channel must be connected to YouTube — in the channel settings (the gear next to the channel in the sidebar).
  • When connecting, choose the Google account — or the brand account — that owns the YouTube channel. A Google account without a channel can't upload.

The video and thumbnail

  • Video — drop the MP4 you exported from CapCut, 1080p or higher. Without one, the story's Production render is uploaded.
  • Thumbnail — 1280 × 720 px is best. It's optional, but without it YouTube picks a frame itself.

Title, description, tags

  1. Basics — the title (up to 100 characters), a playlist and the category. Without a category, the channel's default is used.
  2. Description — write it, or let the AI help: SEO description, Chapters and Hashtags are generated from the transcript; Channel description inserts your channel's standard text where the cursor is.
  3. Tags — generated or typed, up to 500 characters together.
  4. Check before upload — an optional check of picture, pace, hook, title & thumbnail and sound, with a score and notes.

The description limit

YouTube allows 5000 bytes, not 5000 letters: emoji and typographic characters like "–" or "’" count 3–4 each. The counter under the field counts the way YouTube does and turns red when it's over. YouTube also refuses < and > in the description.

Upload

Upload to YouTube sends the video with all its details. The video is marked on YouTube as containing AI-generated content. When it's done, Open on YouTube appears in the status bar.

Why is the upload button grey?

Hover over it — it says why:

  • the channel isn't connected to YouTube,
  • there's no video yet,
  • the title is empty,
  • the description is too long or contains < or >.

"Upload failed"

  • Description or title refused — check the counter and remove < and >.
  • Not authorised — connect the channel again in its settings and pick the account that owns the channel.
  • Otherwise try again; the video stays in Seedflows, nothing has to be prepared again.
